Our Firm Helps Whistleblower Win Award in $2 Million Healthcare Fraud Case

Our firm recently helped a client report health care fraud committed by a medical billing provider in a False Claims Act (qui tam) lawsuit. Our firm joined a team of other experienced whistleblower attorneys to prepare a detailed complaint alleging that this company submitted false and fraudulent claims to receive reimbursement from Medicare and Medicaid. Our team worked with the whistleblower to prepare a presentation for the government, and continued to assist the whistleblower and government investigators for several years while the case was pending. Ultimately, we were able to convince the government to intervene in the case which ultimately resulted in a settlement of over $2 million including attorneys fees.

Because the government joined in the case and convinced the medical billing provider to settle, our client will receive a percentage of the settlement as a whistleblower award.

We were privileged to help represent the whistleblower in this case and applaud the government’s diligence in pursuing the fraud our client reported. The government’s investigation in this case was conducted as a part of their Health Care Fraud Prevention and Enforcement Action Team (HEAT), which has recovered over $20 billion in False Claims Act cases since January 2009.

We are currently working on several other major False Claims Act cases on behalf of whistleblowers that have been willing to speak up and report health care fraud and government contract fraud against the United States. In addition to receiving substantial awards when a case is settled, whistleblowers are also entitled to protection under federal law against retaliation from their employer when they report suspected fraud. Our whistleblower practice has been growing significantly over the past few years and we look forward to more successful results for our clients.
